Retired buildings, shallow waters, the threshold of the city, horizon, geometry, fragments of memory and production, layered labor, sea, bathers, the city beyond, passersby, residents, tourists, footprints in the sand, soil, development initiatives, a tannery –just one, padlocks, metal sheets, strong smell, black water, sharp rocks, natural hollows, uncertain footing.

A series of industrial shells and a rocky coastline. Two places saturated with time host a temporary inhabitation experiment. Utopia:31’ invites performers and audience to collectively construct the image of the place as a spatial and temporal detournement from the broader framework of the redevelopment of the Tabakaria area.

The buildings have now lost their function – they have no purpose – while the rocks never had one. The buildings speak of the erosion of time, while the rocks exist beyond the human scale. The elements of the space define utopia’s time as a simultaneous manifestation of memory, presence, and expectation. Each action vanishes as it unfolds, urging bodies to imagine their role within the space. The repetition of a banal everyday moment, the unfolding of a personal ritual, the emergence of a memory provoke the bodies to abandon certainty and enter into an unfamiliar negotiation with the place – for just a little more than 30 minutes.
