The idea of this transnational residency has been around for many years before its realization in this year’s DDC programming. It is seen as an investment in the potentiality of research and development of young Greek artists through the opportunity to engage in an embodied dialogue between movement artists/researchers from different cultures, backgrounds and techniques. The aim of the project that functions as a pilot for the first time at the festival is to contribute to the exchange of ideas and artistic practices, creating a network of support.

For 10 days, dancers Christina Skoutela and Nikolas Chatzivasileiadis from Greece, Ilona Gumowska and Izabela Prokopek from Poland, along with the artistic directors of DDC, Sofia Falierou and of Zawirowania Dance Festival, Elwira Piorun -representing the organizers of the artistic residency- will share the time and space in Chania. They will explore ways to interact, compose and ultimately present a work in progress as the result of their artistic encounter. The mixed group will then go to Warsaw where they will continue to develop their research and presenting it at the collaborating festival.

The collaboration between Zawirowania Dance Festival and Dance Days Chania aims to exchange practices and experiences between emerging dance artists from Poland and Greece. This programme is addressed to young artists – dancers and choreographers working in contemporary dance. Therefore, we have invited four artists from Poland and Greece to take part in a residency to work on a performance. As part of this project, four European artists will have a chance to start an international collaboration with the support of two organizations from Poland and Greece. What will come out of this new encounter? We will be able to find out during the open presentations in Chania and Warsaw (July & August).
