A few words about “New creators and Public space”
For the 6th consecutive year, the section “New Creators and Public Space” aims to host, support, develop and present projects by new creators from Greece. Connected to sites of the city, the DDC offers space for research and at the same time to the public the opportunity to follow a project in all its creative stages.
We present this year’s selected proposals in their “first steps” on their creative journey.

Is it possible for a place to be a point of historical entertainment? The site-specific performance “LocaTropica” retrieves the historicity of entertainment venues, focusing on the experiential impact they bring to a local community. By studying the experiential narratives that emerge from the once bustling “Honolulu” entertainment centre in Chalepa, the performance proposes a tour and reconstruction of the site’s history. The memory of dance and the embodied reading of the space connects moments, stories and events implicitly. Further, the use of the name “Honolulu” expands the research towards an imaginative reception of space and the emergence of a site of multiple narratives and spatial associations. The condition of entertainment thus seems capable of transforming a place, acting dynamically in its social composition and reconstructing the experiences associated with it. Particularly in the case of “Honolulu” in Chalepa, the space becomes a channel of metaphorical associations, creating a local trope inspired both by the trivial use of the name and the resulting paradoxical spatial confusion.
