Miller de Nobili was founded in 2020 by M. Chiara de’ Nobili and Alexander Miller as a platform merging breaking, contemporary, and urban dance theatre with acting techniques. Their debut piece, Momento, won the Scapino Ballet Production Prize at the 35th Choreography Competition in Hannover, marking the beginning of a dynamic creative journey. Their first full-length work, PACK, premiered in 2021 at HELLERAU before being showcased at Tanzplattform Deutschland 2022. In 2022, they premiered Don’t You Dare! at HELLERAU. The year 2023 saw them participate in RIDCC with Until Again, and co-choreograph Song of the Dark Forest for Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. In 2024, MdN premiered Labyrinth, developed during residencies at AGORA Cité de la Danse (Montpellier) and Centro Coreografico Canal (Madrid), and co-produced by HELLERAU and Residenzzentrum Tanz+ (Baden). They also presented There Was Still Time, co-produced by La Biennale di Venezia and Teatros del Canal, later invited to Prisma Festival (Panama). That same year, the company took part in the German showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. From 2025, Miller de Nobili receives institutional funding from the City of Dresden and has been awarded the Promotion Prize of the City of Dresden. Their next full-length production, Hype the Pain, will premiere in October 2025 at HELLERAU, developed through residencies at Residenzzentrum Tanz+, Choreographic Center Heidelberg, and Theater Freiburg. Additionally, MdN has been invited to perform at the Kuopio Dance Festival (Finland) and Dance Days Chania (Greece).
Humankind has always felt the need to invent narratives and stories to fill the void of nothingness. Today, more than ever, people are trying and failing to make sense of the absurdity of their existence. Depression, alienation and fragmentation are flip sides of hyper-accelerated self-enhancement and excessive individualism. Miller de Nobili takes inspiration from Beckett’s Waiting for Godot to explore its possible reiterations in the context of modern society. Maybe Beckett’s character Estragon is right to assume that, when we see only darkness, we are not blind but looking into the future. But could we equally use this emptiness to pause and reflect together with the ones next to us? There was still Time explores how dance transmits ideas of suspense and absence. Can the disruptive power of waiting offer a moment to breathe in a world that rushes us through ever-changing types of empty content at an incredibly fast pace?
