Sofia Mavragani (b. Athens, 1978) is a choreographer whose work explores the relationship between body, voice, and socio-political context, often bridging dance with theatre, music, and visual arts. She studied Choreography/Dance Making at ArtEZ University of Arts (Netherlands) and Business Administration at the Athens University of Economics and Business. Since 2007, she has created numerous works, including Horse Me (2025), Glorious Epic (2024), PATAGOS (2023), A LIVE (2022), MAUΘ (2021), Afterwords (2019), and Speechless (2018). Her pieces have been presented internationally at festivals and institutions such as FIBA Buenos Aires, Athens Epidaurus Festival, Documenta14, Onassis Stegi, Spring Forward, Kalamata International
Dance Festival, and the Athens Concert Hall, as well as in unconventional venues such as cafés, strip clubs, and taxis. She is the initiator of research and educational programs such as BREAKING ART, imPROject, and playforPLACE (realized in 17 cities worldwide). Her projects have been supported by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation, Duncan Dance Research Center, Neimenster (Luxembourg), and the Athens Concert Hall.
Mavragani is a founding member of the international artistic network FINGERSIX and FINGERSIX/Athens.
Glorious Epic is a bold dance performance that explores the tension between heroism and vulnerability — a poetic allegory tracing the decline of old heroes and a transition from power to fragility.
At its core, two bodies grapple with passions, desires, and thoughts, interacting dynamically to reveal the strength of collectivity. Their movement shifts between conflict and harmony, transforming personal struggle into moments of shared beauty.
The performance challenges conventional norms, hierarchies, and preconceptions of heroism, foregrounding the delicate — and at the same time epic — beauty found in vulnerability, relationality, and often overlooked details of life.
Glorious Epic reflects on the power and transformative potential of collective presence, on and off stage.
