A few words about “New creators and Public space”
For the 6th consecutive year, the section “New Creators and Public Space” aims to host, support, develop and present projects by new creators from Greece. Connected to sites of the city, the DDC offers space for research and at the same time to the public the opportunity to follow a project in all its creative stages.
We present this year’s selected proposals in their “first steps” on their creative journey.
JIRITO is a site-specific, multimedia promenade performance that invites the audience to explore the area of Tampakaria in Chania through the embodied narrative of the landscape and oral history. Tási Dance Co, draws inspiration from this area, where old and modern images uniquely shape the landscape.
The oral history emerging from people’s experiences differs from the dominant narratives in official history books. It focuses on social groups that often remain invisible and unmentioned in written history, giving them voice and presence.
The performance involves four performers who interact physically with the landscape while listening to recorded narratives from people connected to the Tampakaria area. The goal of the work is to bring the residents to the forefront and highlight their relationship with their past through embodied storytelling.
For the best viewing experience, it is recommended to use headphones connected to an internet-enabled device.
