Julia Brendle studied dance at the Palucca School Dresden/Germany and at Codarts in Rotterdam/Netherlands where she received her Bachelors degree. She received her MA in dance studies from Freie Universität Berlin in Germany.

She’s been working as a performer and co creator with numerous choreographers and companies mainly in the Netherlands, Germany and Cyprus such as Felix Ruckert/Berlin, Telos Tanzcompany/Stuttgart, Theater Thikwa/Berlin, De Meekers/Rotterdam, Omada Pende/Cyprus, Asomates Dynames/Cyprus, Milena Ugren Koulas/Cyprus, en drasi/Evie Demetriou/Cyprus, Fotis Nikolaou/Cyprus and many more. Since 2006 she’s been a member of Z.em tanzprojekte in Stuttgart/Germany.

Since 2012 she’s creating her own works which have been invited to several European festivals such as the Contemporary Dance Festival of Vilnius/Lithuania, the Zarowania festival in Warsaw/Poland. Her öatest works “Inference” and “Sepia Nights” were presented in the Choreography Platform of Cyprus in 2020 and 2021. In 2017 she was the artist in Residence of Dancehouse Lemesos where she was part of the B-motion festival/Italy.

Julia is also working as a movement coach and choreographer for theater where she was nominated for the Cyprus theater awards in 2015.

She’s been working as a part time lecturer for dance and dance theory/pedagogy at the University of Nicosia since 2011 up until today.

The body is where our instincts reside and where we fight, flee, or freeze, and it endures the trauma and the memories inflicted by society and personal experience. The only truly useful memories are those that might initially seem to be the least reliable: memories stored in the body and not necessarily accessible by our conscious mind.

In this piece we ask the body to remember, share and develop a memory of the present.
