Let’s dance. Improvisation Workshop
The structure and the goal of the workshop are the creation and composition of movement, Horacio proposes a highly physical work that demands attention, interest and alert rather than a certain technique level. The participants learn to relate and connect themselves instantly to the environment and to develop playfulness and spontaneity in taking decisions, for immediate composition full of meaning.
“The inflexibility of the established paralyzes the movement, dims the ingenuity, casts a shadow over surprise. But life force makes us adaptable, it gives us the opportunity to transform space and to translate energy into matter, matter into its own evolution. The outline of the spontaneous is blurred to disappear, the margins of the predictable are softened and we know the interrogation point that questions the automatic response. The body allows us to transcend.”
His approach is based on his own intuition and varies and evolves with what the group offers. The basis of this work is the diversity of the personal movement and world of each participant, who will be working from the body and with images and emotions to discover new and surprising possibilities. The intention always lies in accessing the full expression and communication in the personal dance, not in terms of virtuosity but from the uniqueness as a being. Everybody learns from everybody, to risk more and to delve deeper into the potential of their own creativity by sharing, observing, attending, seeing other bodies and appreciating what is offered. Dance happens more present, more complete, it gets deeper and richer.
The Mozambican dancer and choreographer is the artistic director of the dance company which bears his name. Having no aesthetic limitations the company develops projects that are open to the creativity of all the collaborators and always with the intention that everyone has the room to explore their own choreographic universe.
He has carried out the projects COMUM, Orobroy, Stop! (1st Prize and Puma Creative Prize at Danse l’Afrique Danse Festival 2010), Smile If You Can!, Fighting room, Convoy, Trampled Rose and Paradise is not in the sky!
Horacio is a founding member of Culturarte, the first contemporary dance company of Mozambique. He has collaborated as dancer and creator with choreographers Cristina Moura, Thomas Hauert, Pablo Colbert, George Khumalo, and David Zambrano, considering him his maestro and mentor.
