Flying Low & Passing Through is a contemporary dance technique created by David Zambrano, which Álvaro Silva has studied, worked with and assisted him in several of his intensives throughout Europe.

The initiation workshop to Flying Low and Passing Through is divided into two blocks, although both are finally united. The image of the body in constant spiral, whether running-dancing, walking-dancing or standing, is the main practice throughout the class. The workshop develops how working with spirals helps dancers to move up and down to the floor with ease, in infinite shapes and curves using the whole body in a very specific way that Flying-Low has established on a general level in the world of Contemporary Dance. Helping dancers to see themselves and the room from all angles. The spirals propel the class around the room, both on the floor and upright.

This is the technique of Flying-Low and Passing Through.

*Flying Low is a dance technique created by David Zambrano. It is based on the ability to enter and leave the floor efficiently and spontaneously. This technique uses speed as a vehicle to generate a state of alertness. It is based on the natural spirals generated by the body and the infinite curves drawn in space.

*PassingThrough is the realization of movement compositions. David Zambrano focuses on creating and developing the dynamics of complex systems to present leadership in the form of a group network. The “step through” takes students through various exercises to manifest that same philosophy. The group will create dynamics that are flexible, complex, making the group fit together well, but always keeping the doors open for the unpredictable. The group is constantly moving, transforming the dance environment. After participating in the “step through”, the student will learn to connect instantly with their environment and become more spontaneous in making decisions as an improviser, choreographer or dancing in someone else’s work.

Álvaro Silvag is a dancer and performer from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, in the south of Andalusia, living between Seville and Brussels. At an early age, he came into contact with dance through Break dance, a discipline he has been practicing ever since. Alvaro studied at the Centro Andaluz de la Danza (CAD) in Seville. He has also studied Andalusian folk dances.

He has complemented his dance education with teachers David Zambrano, Thomas Hauert, Jennifer Monson, Mark Tompkins, Yoshiko Chuma, Hisako Horikawa and Julyen Hamilton.

Álvaro has worked as a dancer for the companies El Punto Danza Teatro (Seville), Isabelle Beernaert (Netherlands), Cía. Kalpanarts, a project that fuses traditional Indu Bharatanatyam dance with contemporary dance (Netherlands-Belgium) and with David Zambrano, being his mentor.
