In this workshop, Jacob Gómez will share his physical and creative methodology, based on a combination of improvisation and technical exercises guided by an imaginative approach that invites participants to forget the limits of the body and allow space for real, organic, and new movement to emerge.

The practice begins with a physical exploration through dynamics that activate perception, internal listening, and rhythmic play. Using clear tasks and visual or auditory stimuli, a state of presence is proposed from which the body can respond with both freedom and precision.

Later, choreographic sequences will be introduced as tools to investigate the physicality of the material, the energy that sustains it, and the interpretative choices that enrich it.

Jacob’s approach is rooted in the search for a living, expressive, and honest body—one that goes beyond executing shapes and becomes a channel for telling truths through both physical and emotional presence.

Jacob Gómez Ruiz lives and works in Barcelona, where he develops his artistic practice. He began his studies in Contemporary Dance at the Professional Conservatory of Dance in Valencia. In 2013, he graduated from the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, specializing in Contemporary Dance. That same year, he received an apprenticeship scholarship with Luna Negra Dance Theater in Chicago, under the direction of Gustavo Ramírez.

He later joined the young company IT Dansa, directed by Catherine Allard. In 2015, he became a member of Theater Pforzheim (Germany), under the direction of Gwido Markowitz. Between 2016 and 2018, he worked as a soloist dancer at Theater Bielefeld (Germany). During this period, he also created his first two choreographies with non-professional performers. In 2019, he was selected as a finalist for the Institut del Teatre Awards, where he presented his first piece on the Catalan scene, receiving the Audience Award. Since then, he has continued to present this work at various national and international festivals and competitions, earning several prizes and recognitions as a choreographer.

In December 2020, he received the Butaca Award for Best Male Dancer in Catalonia. In 2021, he obtained a co-production from the Tanz Bozen International Festival and premiered his 52-minute piece Meohadim. In October 2023, Meohadim received the award for Best Dance Piece from the IVC.

Jacob Gómez has created choreographies for multiple companies, centers, and festivals, including: Theater Bielefeld (Germany), Festival Quinzena Dança Almada (Portugal), Valencian Dancing Forward, 180 Danza, Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, Conservatorio Oriol Martorell, EPDCYL Burgos, COBOSMIKA (Barcelona), ADDA, Iwanson Schule, Meow University (Washington), among others. His most notable works include Meohadim and RARA AVIS, premiered at the Circuito Bucles Festival in Valencia, both of which have received multiple awards and recognitions.

He is currently on tour with more than 16 performances of his piece Dúo Quema, and works as a freelance artist with choreographers such as Paloma Muñoz (Siberia). A nominee for the 2025 MAX Awards as Best Male Performer, Jacob is also pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Pedagogy at the Conservatorio María de Ávila in Madrid.
