Serge Arthur Dodo’s contemporary dance is a real journey through his choreographic culture.
He explores Ivorian urban and traditional dances that he deconstructs and to which he gives new life through his gestures.
Trained in the Acogny technique as a graduate of the École des Sables, he manages to merge this knowledge and his know-how as a young Ivorian choreographer rooted in his culture but open to new sensibilities and approaches to movement, able to give an authentic and specific writing to our dance today.
Moreover, his experience and his contact with the Pina method through his presence as a dancer for 4 years in the show “le sacre du printemps” by Pina Bausch, have given him a new perspective on his approach to transmitting and teaching dance.
The Workshops are intended for both professional and non-professional dancers.
Serge Arthur Dodo is a choreographer and dance artist from Ivory Coast who first started in street dance competitions.
After graduated with an art degree in Ivory Coast, Serge joined the renowned ‘Ecole des sables’ at the National Art Institute in Senegal to complete his training and had the opportunity to learn from Germaine Acogny, the mother of African contemporary, Andrea Boll, Gilles Jobin, Gabriel Smeets, Patrick Acogny and Nora Chipaumire (USA – Zimbabwe).
He is the artistic director and choreographer of his own dance company called King’Art and has developed several pieces with his company in the last decade, as well as choreographing for TV shows such as ‘The Voice Afrique Francophone’ and ‘The Voice Kids Africa’. He was a lecturer of Afro-contemporary classes at the University AHK of Amsterdam in the Expanded Contemporary Dance department between 2018-2020.
Serge is currently a member of the international African cast that reinterprets Pina Bausch’s piece ‘The Rite of Spring’ (collaboration between Pina Bausch foundation, Ecole des Sables and Sadler’s Wells).
