‘a.phemia | α.φημία – re – Moat’ is a structured dance and music improvisational experiment revolving around the theme of Grotesque. Using materials that derive from butoh and contemporary electroacoustic improvisation, the group attempts to explore the condisfiguration of the dancing body. The realisation of this project takes place at the historical sight of the Western Trench (moat) of Chania, aiming to recall and reassess the original function of this architectural structure in today’s society. The audial and motional components converge and become each other’s perceived limits and together, they aesthetically interpret the meanings of pity and fear. The dynamically intense kinesiology records the sensations and memories of the sight and its people. ‘Re -Moat’ is an attempt to interfere with the spatial normal, to draw attention andor surprise the passerby. It aims to guide the audience towards assessing the imposing structure of the Trench and to grasp its atmosphere, creating sensory stimuli that compose an experiential re-staging of the meaning of the Trench.
